The controversial three divorce bills were passed in the Indian Lok Sabha despite strong opposition from the opposition. The government demanded that the bill be passed to prevent immediate divorce.
Three divorces in the passing bill would be considered criminal offenses. If the allegations are proved, the divorce provider will have to face three years imprisonment. Several opposition parties, including Congress, have accused the ruling party of passing the controversial bill aimed at Muslims. The bill must now be passed in the Rajya Sabha.
Earlier, after the Modi government came to power for the first time in 27, three divorce bills were passed in the Lok Sabha. But due to the expiration of the Rajya Sabha without approval, the bill was declared void.
